Do you see clients in person?
No, I am only working remotely at this time.
Do you see clients virtually?
Yes! I am currently accepting new counseling clients for virtual therapy for folks who live in the state of Texas.
What are sessions like with you?
Sessions and content material in therapy are all 100% led by *you*. If you're new to therapy and thinking "okay, what do I even talk about for 50-minutes straight?" Don't worry. I've got you! We are beginners at some point and over time with some help, you'll get the hang of it.
Here's a few tips:
1. Don't be afraid to ask me if there's something you should be talking about or to let me know if it feels like therapy isn't working or isn't going like you thought it would. Sometimes this can mean that the type of therapy we are currently using just isn't a good fit you/your particular style.
2. Come in with questions or curiosities you've had about yourself or life since the last session.
3. Bring in books or ask about books for topics you're interested in.
4. Notice what your body feels like after sessions and before sessions. Notice if it changes. Notice if your body changes 2-3 days after an appointment. Consider bringing this up in sessions to explore.
5. Get curious about the relationships in your life. Do you feel anxious about them? Feel overwhelmed by them, like you're not getting the support you need, like they're overwhelming you or pushing you away? Relationships are always great material to bring up in sessions.
6. If all else fails, therapy can be a place to explore your life growing up as a child. Were you close to your parents as a kid? Which do you feel closest to? How did they show you they loved you? How did you know when they were upset with you?
Can you see clients virtually who live outside of Texas?
Unfortunately, my license does not currently allow me to see counseling clients across state borders. However, I am able to see coaching clients from others states. Please schedule your free 30-minute phone consultation if you are interested in virtual coaching or would like to know more about the differences between it and therapy.
How long should I expect to commit to therapy before it works?
I am not a short term or solution focused therapist. I do not practice CBT. I tend to work with clients who are working through childhood trauma or ongoing, recurring events and thus, long term therapy (research indicates that 3 months of weekly therapy for short term therapy can be helpful for achieving some progress) is usually what is recommended.
I need to use insurance. Who are you in network with? Can you provide me with a reimbursement statement if you are out of network?
Please see my Billing page. At this time, I do not accept insurance but can provide an insurance reimbursement statement. I can’t promise that your insurance company will reimburse you for the session because all insurance policies are different. I would suggest calling your insurance company and asking them upfront prior to scheduling an appointment if this is important to you. Contact me to learn more!
How long do sessions last?
Sessions are 50-minutes long unless you would like to extend your session by an additional amount of time. Longer sessions (80-minutes) are sometimes needed for clients who are coming in for EMDR.
What sorts of issues do you see clients for?
Please check out my specialties.
Do you prescribe medication?
No, I do not prescribe medication. Therapists or counselors are mental health care providers who assist clients in psychotherapy and have their Masters in Counseling, mental health or social work. Psychologists are providers who assist clients with assessments and testing as well as therapy and have their PhD or PsyD. A psychiatrist is a medically trained physician with additional education in medication for psychiatric issues and have completed medical school. At this time, psychiatrists, physicians and some physician assistants or psychiatric nurses are the only mental health care providers who are able to prescribe medication. For details, please give me a call.
I can't afford your services but need help.
